With the Alvin ISD Fall Break (October 13-17) just a few weeks away, we know parents in the Manvel and Pearland area are busy planning. You have questions, and we have answers!

We’ve gathered our most frequently asked questions about the SmartCore Labs Fall Break Camp to help you make the perfect plan for a week of fun, learning, and discovery.

Q: What will my child actually do all day at a STEM camp?

A: Your child will be an active creator from start to finish! We have two exciting tracks based on age:

For Ages 5-9: Each day has a new theme, from "Color & Code" to "Explosive Fun"! They'll engage in hands-on projects like building their first animation in Scratch, conducting awesome (and safe!) chemical reactions like Elephant Toothpaste, and even turning bananas into game controllers with Makey Makey.
For Ages 10 & Up: This group takes a deep dive into tech creation. In the mornings, they’ll learn professional 3D modeling with Tinkercad. In the afternoons, they’ll import those creations into Roblox Studio to build and code their very own video games with Lua scripting.

Q: My child has never coded before. Is this camp for them?

A: Absolutely! Our camps are designed for all skill levels, and the vast majority of our campers are beginners. Our experienced instructors are experts at guiding students step-by-step. Our goal is to spark curiosity and build confidence in a fun, supportive environment. No prior experience is necessary—just a willingness to explore!

Q: What are the camp hours, and do you offer extended care?

A: We know your schedule is busy. The core camp hours are 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. To make things easier, we offer a complimentary early drop-off starting at 7:45 AM and a complimentary late pick-up that runs until 5:00 PM.

Q: What should my child bring to camp?

A: It’s simple! All your child needs is a packed lunch, a snack, a refillable water bottle, and their imagination. We provide all the technology, lab equipment, and supplies needed for their projects.

Q: My child spends enough time on screens. How is this different?

A: This is our favorite question! We focus on transforming kids from passive screen consumers into active technology creators. Instead of just watching videos or playing games, they are building, designing, coding, and problem-solving. They will be using technology as a powerful tool for creation, collaborating with peers, and bringing their own ideas to life.
